Artist's Statement
My work is the excavation of a visceral world, unfolding, collapsing, and regenerating. They are surreal semi-abstractions. The underlying structures are architectural and topographic landscapes. The overlays are sensual machinery plans, anatomical renderings, and the detailed lushness of plant life. Key images are doubled or flipped to mirror themselves, these dualities address contrasts between harmony and struggle. Natural properties of mimicry, symmetry, growth and adaptation are used to investigate larger social issues of extradition, migration, dual sexual natures, and dual cultural identities. The goal of my work is to infiltrate and scramble singular, fixed meanings; to depict the vital living process of physical and spiritual transformation, cultivating a visual vocabulary to inform issues of duality and metamorphosis in the realm of social and emotional politics.
