Artist's Statement
|
I define myself as an installation artist. Based on audience participation, my work involves the process and experience of recording memories, their transformation into archives and reclaiming of personal and ethnic identities. The intentions of my works are collecting memory and exploring identity to highlight the experiences, issues and achievements both past and present of minority groups in Britain and their effect on the cultural diversity of the country. In the future I will still focus on the main concerns of my previous work and try to explore more effective methods to build up a network between the exhibition/artist and Chinese community groups (both established immigrant groups and the student groups coming to the west for educational or cultural purpose), businesses and individuals; between exhibition/artist and other community groups and individuals in order to deepen my explorations on ñart of memories/small stories î and how art works as an interactive experience from various angles and to establish and expand my career as a professional artist. Also, with my previous experiences of working with cultural exchange projects I want to further exploit my contacts with contemporary artists and curators in China to develop exciting new cultural projects between these two countries as China grows in cultural significance.
