Artist's Statement
|
I use objects and materials collected from everyday media and situations: from travel guides, horoscopes and science fiction novels, to conversations, historical references and lifestyle magazines; ideas drawn from places I may visit, places I may see on screen.
Re-examining these through sculpture, photography, installation, video or text-works allows me to question ideas of authenticity and heritage, of the mutability of perception and of space and its implications. The array of aspirations informing our belief systems together with differing ideas of place and identity are central themes of my work, which takes its point of departure in the play of intersecting realities and the paradox of fragmented perspectives. In reconstructing the underlying order of the everyday, familiar or overlooked objects and spaces assume a new identity and significance, through a fusion of languages and by the ambiguities of uncertainty.
