Ray Wong
Artist's Statement
|
| Wong has been making his own short films since
1999, for the most part, taking on duties of directing, writing,
producing, camera operating, editing, and composing music himself.
His approach focuses on limitations, in virtually every sense,
as a positive benefit to the creative process. The starting
point always focuses on an idea that grabs his interest, whether
it is family biography, unusual food dishes, board games, or
simply a vehicle to experiment and develop his craft.
To summarise, Wong’s approach to filmmaking is self-sufficient,
pragmatic, experimental yet accessible, above all personal,
and one which strives to strike a balance between technical
expertise and creative expression.
Ray has also: taught video production, led community video projects,
mentored first time directors, camera operated on a local BBC
news programme, and worked as a Filmmaker in Residence in a
secondary school.
