Artist's Statement

My works are part of my exploration of being a modern nomad. I have been through many stages on this journey and my works reflect that mixed cultural identity and experience. I investigate many different elements from this these mixed cultural experiences: such as the search for cultural identity, displacement, rootless-ness, attachment, cultural boundaries and how they reacting with the environment. In my recent works I find that boundaries start to dissolve, as memories of past experience and influences merge and connect with one another in a fragmented way but disparate and separably identifiable.

I am fascinated by the image making process of overlapping transparent images,. Parts of the images are lost with the new form emerging as revealing and concealing at the same time. The process of merging and breaking the surface of the paintings is like memories; it exists in both a fragmented and infinite form. I am particularly interested in how our mind selects memories, thus creating our individual internal worlds.

Newspaper, magazines and scrap notes that are created or stumbled upon in my daily life are used as well as symbols from different cultures also mixed in my paintings. All the elements mentioned above are important - a new spore in creating connections between our inner world and the outside world.
