Danh Hy Artist's Statement

With my working practice I am constantly fascinated by people; the different degrees possible in the relationships between me and you, us and them, him and her. I find that relationships are all about choice. One can choose to be involved with another, one can choose to ignore the other, also to what degree0 does one share oneself with that ïotherÍ? What intrigues me most about people is the actions in which we make and opt upon; the purpose behind these actions, and the thought process that occurred to decide upon such an action. In my own experience, being a British Born Chinese I have, found it difficult finding a balance between cultures. Modern British lifestyle is very different to Traditional Chinese family-orientated methods. Which I feel, is in most part why the ïotherÍ in relation to ïselfÍ, is an area in which I am keen to explore, investigate and express. We all embody different roles within society. I am not only a female; but a daughter, a sister, a friend, a lover, an acquaintance, and a stranger. By exploring the other, ironically brings me to discover and develop a deeper understanding of myself.
