The images I have selected for the database are from the book I made in my last year of my degree entitled ñOur Home from Homeî.
For individuals such as myself who live in between two cultures, that is: that of the British-Chinese, the notion of ïhomeÍ is central in placing our identities in society.
As a British-Chinese woman, I find myself living in between two cultures. I am curious as to the way in which similarly placed individuals locate themselves in society, with particular interest on the notion of ïhomeÍ. As part of my dissertation, which was about living in Diaspora and explored the concept of identity in the Chinese Diaspora of Great Britain, I sent out a questionnaire to the British-Chinese that I knew and one of the questions asked them to tell me where ïhomeÍ was to them. The majority of responses indicated that home was where they were born and grew up, that is, in Britain.
The work I produced with this idea in mind culminated in the book; where I had the chance to indulge my curiosity about manifestations of choice and culture within the private home environment.
